Speech-to-text services
Speech-to-text services accommodate individuals who do not use sign language and cannot access auditory information. Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) provides a written, verbatim account of what is being said in the classroom.
The CART providers produce a text of the spoken information, which is then displayed to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ on their electronic devices.
Students receive a transcript of the spoken content. However, transcripts are not shared with other Ñý¼§Ö±²¥.
Service request timeline
We require the following sufficient time to respond and make provisions for CART services.
-
At least 2 days for one-time events and meetings
-
At least 1 week for recurring classroom and multi-day events
How Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ request speech-to-text services
For courses
- Email your course schedule each semester in advance to the primary contact.
For class-related activities, meetings, reviews, or group sessions
- Submit your request to the primary contact.
Student Responsibilities
Promptly inform the primary contact about the following:
- Your finalized class schedule as soon as it is available.
- Any changes to your class schedule, including drop, add, and withdrawal adjustments during the semester.
Promptly inform the primary contact and the CART provider assigned to you at least 24 hours:
- If you cannot attend class, the class is canceled, or if you don’t need the service.
Work with your CART provider about their wait time. Each service agency holds its policy for signing on to the system and waiting for Ñý¼§Ö±²¥.
Policy
- Sharing the CART sign-on link and transcripts with others violates the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥’s Student Code of Conduct.
