The DEN (Discover. Engage. Network.)
The DEN Hours (Fall 2025): 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
*The DEN will be closed on observed holidays by UM: Sept. 2, Nov. 11, and Nov. 28-29.
Located on the second floor of the Gallagher Business Building, the DEN transforms a former classroom and computer lab into a modern, flexible environment designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s Ñý¼§Ö±²¥. The renovation was initiated by a student proposal five years ago, calling for updated computer labs that better reflect contemporary technology use—collaborative, mobile, and adaptable.
The impact of the renovation is three-fold:
- Enhanced professionalization: Students can develop human and social skills in a shared environment that mirrors today’s professional offices.
- Improved instruction: Faculty benefit from a flexible, open classroom design that allows for better student engagement without monitors obstructing views.
- Cross-disciplinary collaboration: Nearly a quarter of classes held in the Gallagher Business Building are non-business courses. The DEN is open to all UM Ñý¼§Ö±²¥, fostering interaction across different majors.
Highlights of the DEN:
- Windows that provide abundant natural light.
- A large, flexible space furnished with tables and chairs for individuals or groups.
- A design shaped by input from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥, faculty, and industry partners.
- A layout inspired by the collaborative workspaces found in leading firms.
- Extensive technology upgrades to the 1,250-square-foot instructional classroom.
- A sliding wall system that can open between the classroom and the DEN to expand usable space.
- Three private group suites that double as professional interview rooms.
- A fireplace to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
- A printer for student use, eliminating the need to visit the library.
- Extended hours to give Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ more access to the space before and after class.
The three private collaboration rooms are quipped with cameras, microphones, computers and whiteboards. These spaces are perfect for a in-person and hybrid group projects.
