Undergraduate Students
The Avian Science Center (ASC) is a university-based research center that offers meaningful, hands-on opportunities for undergraduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ to grow as scientists, professionals, and conservation leaders. We complement classroom learning by helping Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ apply their knowledge in real-world settings – through field research, data entry/lab work, independent research, and collaborations with conservation professionals.
We work closely with local, regional, and national partners, giving Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ the chance to contribute to pressing environmental issues. Whether you are curious about birds, ecosystems, or conservation decisions, ASC offers a space to build skills, explore new ideas, and make a difference.
Interested in volunteering, seasonal employment for ongoing projects, or developing and conducting independent research? Check our website for opportunities or inquire to asc@umontana.edu including a cover letter stating your interest and a current CV/resume.
Bill Gabriel Avian Science Center Scholarship
This scholarship, made possible by H. William (Bill) Gabriel – a forester, wildlifer, photographer, and writer – supports undergraduates seeking hands-on experience with bird research. Recipients work 2-5 hours per week during the semester, and return the following semester, on activities such as field assistance, data entry/lab work, and independent research. The activities under this scholarship are flexible and designed to help Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ explore their interest in avian conservation.
